Kansas store owner bids farewell to 'commies' in 'Obamaville'

LAWRENCE, Kan., May 12 (UPI) -- A Kansas business owner stirred controversy in the city of Lawrence with a public message bidding farewell to the "commie & candy ass capital of Kansas."

Bob Fyfe, owner of recently closed Payless Furniture in Lawrence, parked a large red truck in the store's parking lot covered in signs bearing messages including "Goodbye, Obamaville" and branding the city the "commie & candy ass capitol [capital] of Kansas."

A panel on the side of the truck facing away from the road lists "Lawrence City Lib Facts" including that the municipality is the No. 1 "city in the U.S. to be a homeless bum" as well as a "magnet for urban rats from Chicago & East Coast."

A sign on the back of the truck encourages readers to "Restore Freedom" and "Reject Marxism" while proclaiming, "Even retards want to be free." A U.S. flag accompanying the message ironically fails to meet standards of patriotism by bearing too many stars.

Fyfe, who moved his business to Lawrence in 1978, said he wanted to speak his mind before leaving town.

"There's things that you can't say that are really harmless words. They're just words," Fyfe told WDAF-TV.

A flash mob organized online Monday brought nearly 100 protesters to the store.
