Chicago has six cribs to take water from the lake...

We have better pumps now and in my lifetime 2 cribs are used and 4 are reserve and somewhat unmaintained...

Every so often a crib must be maintained...

They take one of the reserve cribs and modernize it...

Pull the one they wish to maintain out of service...

And modernize it...

So the cribs have different levels of development...

The downtown crib has to be the best and oldest...

----------------------------------------------

Chicago used to have very bad water pressure...

This has been fixed in my lifetime with pressure tanks...

----------------------------------------------

There are new water mains from Chicago Stadium east...

Basically a square area as far north and south as downtown...

The rest of the city will have some lead pipes...

It looks like they are going to demolish a number of the old cribs as hazzards...

They were all built at great cost so it may be a mistake.

Water cribs in Chicago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_cribs_in_Chicago

-------------------------------------------------------

They used to not have fish screens in the cribs and they used to suck in fish. Anyways fish parts used to clog up city pipes far away from the lake...

-------------------------------------------------------

People used to die each year from Chicago's poor water...

This ended about 1890's.

Some serious water quality problems surely lasted until the 1930's.

Might be good to be active in your own interest, and either move, or set up your own rain catch and water purification system. Should you have to? No.   Should you?

Your life, your choices.

There's profit to be made here.  Bring in Nestle.  They can add another brand name to their bottled water companies.

How about Nestle's "Windy City Unleaded Premium Filtered Water."

Nestle's "Heavy H2O."  Premium drinking water fortified with nutritious heavy elements.

Or Nestle's "Got the Lead Out."  Now with added fluoride.

Give it a catchy name and the profits can go to repairing the infrastructure.

Get a distiller. It's cheap, easy and you know it's clean. Run about $80 on Amazon or eBay. It cost about $0.40 to produce a gallon. You can use almost any source of water, even sea water.

I've been running one for years now. Well worth the small investment.
