ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Images of a mysterious sea creature found on a St. Simons Island beach have been shared all over social media with many wondering what the animal might be.

But Jacksonville University marine biology experts say, "Not so fast."

They're calling the creature a hoax.

Dr. Quinton White of the Marine Biology Institute at JU said he's seen the photo and video of the creature and the consensus at JU is that it's a fake.

The Georgia Department of National Resources is trying to determine if anyone has the creature's carcass, so state experts can examine it.

No one has a body yet for examination, so how could they know whether it's a hoax or not? What's that pink blurry spot in the picture, I wonder. Looks real enough to me, but fake pics and vids are the norm so who knows?

Im going for hoax.   It's way to easy to buy stuff from the craft store, make something, and use photo-ship filters to do whatever you want.  Plus, no original body?   cmon.   Its bigfoot 101, if you see something f**ked up, you take something f**ked up for proof.

Saved the pic, zoomed in to maximum, looks kinda like paper mache.  If it is real then it looks like it is scarred heavily and possibly pregnant.

My guess,  HOAX.
