Facebook has paid compensation to a 14-year-old girl after naked revenge porn photographs of her were posted on social media. The case is believed to be the first of its kind.

The social media giant settled the landmark legal action and awarded unspecified damages to the teenager, from Northern Ireland, after she sued it for negligence, breach of the Britain's Data Protection Act and for misuse of private information.

Even though I hate face crooks, not sure if I like this, "they" could be setting up a precedent for something else.

From the article...

"Lawyer Pearse MacDermott, representing the girl, said:“Had these images been put in a newspaper or on the TV there would be serious repercussions and those same repercussions should also apply to whatever platform is used in the social media world.

“The case moves the goal posts in the sense that Facebook always said it was up to the individual user to be responsible, not them. It now puts the onus on the provider to look at how they respond to indecent, abusive and other such images put on their platform,” MacDermott said, according to the Daily Mail."

Giant corporations love laws that burden the little guy preventing him from becoming a big guy, competition is a sin.

For all we know face (((crooks))) sued themselves, using one of their kids to do it.

Facebook is not a newspaper or tv station, the content placed on those platforms is controlled by those entities, facebook is more like an open square where people gather for socializing, if someone post a naked picture in an open square is the city responsible?

Tv and newspapers are not the same as social media.......

The article says the picture was obtained through blackmail, what was this 14 year old doing that could have gotten her blackmailed?

Who took the picture in the first place, how did her naked image get into the digital realm?

Why did face crooks capitulate so easily.....

I could go on, but, you get the idea.....

To me this smells......

Simple solution to all this posting vids and photos of somebody in the nod, dont make the things in the first place then, people could not shame or blackmail you. People did not do it until the age of mobile phones and the like, serves themselves right for posing for such images in the first place, no sympathy!

Since this is left to my imagination due to how the article is written, I am going to imagine that there were multiple attempts to get FB to remove the image and nothing was done. In that case, sue them until they are a dead and rotting corpse.
