Some of Sacramento Regional Transit’s websites are still down following a weekend cyberattack.

Officials said the RT website was hacked Saturday night, which was followed by a bitcoin ransom demand.

"It was simply a ransom attack where they were going to delete files if we didn’t pay via bitcoin of $7,000," SacRT spokesperson Wendy Williams said.

RT said the breach caused issues with its network and 30 percent of its files were deleted. However, no customer or employee data was compromised. Bus and light rail services were not affected.

It didn't affect service, but affected ability to pay, they say. Is it just me or is that a typical dumbass statement?  Service includes the ability for people to pay or they can't ride.

Ouch..... They need to learn to protect better. But then maybe the guy just had a lot of skill.... but to demand bitcoin and then say he's a good hacker and only wants to help fix :D counter productive!
