Illinois Capitol reopens after lockdown, no hazardous materials found

Recommended Posts

The Illinois Capitol reopened Thursday after being on lockdown for about two hours after a woman allegedly threw a powdery substance in the governor's office.

The Illinois secretary of state's office, which oversees the Capitol, posted a Twitter message saying that a hazardous materials unit was called in and no hazardous materials found.

The secretary of state's police, which had taken a woman into custody shortly before the lockdown began, has an ongoing investigation. In addition, an announcement of "all clear" was made in the Capitol just before 3:30 p.m.

A live video stream showed three people in hazmat suits and a Capitol police officer enter the reception area of the second floor governor's office around 2:25 p.m. They moved a couch and knelt behind it, a bucket and plastic bags nearby. About 15 minutes later, they stood up, grabbed the plastic bags and bucket they had used, and left the office.

They'd might as well just have all the paychecks made out to the states (eventually) and what they don't spend, give it to the taxpaying workers. Oh wait...
