Weren't casualties pretty low during the height of the IRA, despite all of the bombings and such? This event seems unusual but I don't know much about violence in Ireland.

Islam in the Republic of Ireland

According to the 2011 Irish census, there were 49,204 Muslims living in the Republic of Ireland, representing a 51% increase over the figures for the 2006 census. At the time of the 2016 Irish census the number of Muslims had increased from 49,000 to 63,000, an increase of 29%.
-----
The Muslim immigration at the end of the 90s was caused by the Irish economic boom and asylum seekers from diverse Muslim countries, and in the 20-year period between 1991 and 2011 the Muslim population increased 1000%, from 0.1% to 1.1% of the population of the republic.

Nothing to do with Muslims, incident stemmed from an earlier argument between teenagers. Ballymun, the area it happened in, is basically one of our ghettos.  Shit like this happens all the time. They used to throw junkies off the tower blocks.. lovely place.

I have to say, the vast majority of younger muslims in my area have integrated quite well into Irish society.  I remember when they started coming here, i was in my late teens at the time. The first generation were quite odd to us, they tended to keep themselves to themselves. But i can honestly say the generation that are currently in their 20s/30s, act like normal Irish young adults.

Thinking about it i came to the conclusion that because no 'muslim areas' were set up at the beginning (they were housed quite sporadically), they had to integrate somewhat or face isolation.

I feel we have a bigger problem with east asians, who have managed to populate smaller areas. In one particular street in the city center, they live, own restaurants and you can grab a bag of heroin or crack from them too - http://www.herald.ie/news/detectives-launch-huge-crackdown-on-triad-gangs-29196810.html
