Passenger Plane Diverted Over 'Suspect Device'

The Boeing 747, travelling from Las Vegas to Heathrow, is diverted to Montreal and evacuated as police search the aircraft.

A British Airways plane to Heathrow has been diverted to Montreal after passengers were told there was a "suspect device" on board.

The flight from Las Vegas was evacuated after landing safely.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the Boeing 747 was carrying 312 passengers and 17 crew members.

Passenger Ray Connolly told Sky News that all passengers were searched as they disembarked. The plane was then searched by police using sniffer dogs.

The passengers are now expected to stay in the Canadian city overnight before continuing their onward journey on Thursday.

BA said in a statement that the decision to divert the aircraft was made as a "precaution".

The company said it will provide hotel rooms for the passengers and rebook them "as soon as as we can".

It added it was cooperating with Canadian authorities.

A Canadian police official says that a British Airways flight from Las Vegas to London has been diverted to Montreal after a bomb threat.

The official confirmed the threat aboard the Wednesday flight to the Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about it.

A British Airways spokeswoman said in a statement the plane landed safely in Montreal on Wednesday after the captain took the decision to divert the aircraft as a precaution.

The plane had 312 passengers and 17 crew members on board.

The airline is providing hotel rooms for the passengers and will rebook them on other flights as soon as they can.

British Airways says it is working with Canadian authorities. The airline declined to confirm the diversion was triggered by a bomb threat.

If it really turns out to be a bomb threat, I'm betting it was those darned Seventh Day Adventists. Or dastardly Bdudhists. ;-)
