If nuclear war breaks out, which U.S. cities would be targeted first?

But Putin could also decide that it would be better to hit major American cities instead, including – in no particular order:

– Washington, D.C.

– New York City

– Chicago

– Los Angeles

– Dallas/Fort Worth

– Miami

– Seattle

– Houston

– Denver

– Philadelphia

– San Francisco

– Phoenix

– Tampa

– St. Louis

– Minneapolis

– Boston

– Atlanta

Coastal cities are going to be in the biggest danger due to subs and no chance defense will kill missiles/nukes/bombs that close., Than anywhere near a nuclear power plant (Although it's POSSIBLE they will avoid causing a meltdown because of the potential radiation issues, but I wouldn't gamble on it. there are safer ways to take out a power plant than blowing it up), Miltary bases, I would also avoid the kill zone of Yellowstone, And downstream of any dams. The safest place might be on the border between Mexico or Canada because accidently pulling another country into the fight isn't a good idea right off the bat, and worst case scenario you only have to deal with ground troops invading from those countries because of ease of access (especially Mexico).

Some of those listed could easily be targeted. But look at the cities with interstate highways linking N-S and E-W. Not to mention any area that has a huge military presence like San Diego and Norfolk.

I don't think it would be a good strategy to kill millions and not take out major military assets and installations.

Start with the Navy.

Naval Station Norfolk. (Virginia)
The Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. (Honolulu)
Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville. (Florida)
Naval Base San Diego. (California)
Naval Station Mayport. (Jacksonville, Florida)
Naval Base Kitsap. (Washington State)
Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi. (Texas)

Then the Air Force.

A first strike has to cripple the enemy's ability to retaliate or you blew it.

They would want to disrupt movement so bases and interstates first , then are they wanting to seriously damage our entire infrastructure and kill millions? OR just do minimum damage and take us over, HOW they attack will depend on WHAT there thoughts are on what to do with us.

I'll say a town no one would think of... Cushing Oklahoma. Nearly all the nations oil goes through there, take that out and you cripple the entire country rather quickly. Think of the 70's gas runs, but only with 150 million more people trying to get gas.

But, the easiest thing the Russians could do is burst an EMP above us in space... basically take out all the power, etc. If any one here ever watched the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, just think of how the Cylons basically backdoored the Colonial fleet. Kinda like an EMP bomb, but using a hack to basically shut everything down.

Couldn't have said it better.

I bet $20 Tampa is in the top 3, not just because of MacDill air base, but it's headquarters of "Central Command". I might even double down on that.

Absolutely no way I'd take that bet!

Von Lud listed several USN and USAF bases. A lot of Army and USMC bases could take hits as well (especially MCAS bases like Cherry Point, Yuma, etc.)

:gsbrnint: This all the same "what if's" folks have been speculating on for decades.:nukeanimated:

Either Duluth or Biloxi....merely because of the silly names.  :gsbrnint:

:nodl: Yes, Biloxi is a silly name when they pronounce it as Bu-lox-ee. :gsbrnint:  It is pronounced Bu-luk-see. It's the name of an Indian tribe. ;) They even made it as far as Texas. I was born and raised there in the 60s and 70s. It was a small fishing and military town and people drove an hour to the shipyard or towards Louisiana to work on the oil rigs. Lots of men gone all the time and lots of little affairs going on. One man in this week and out the next and another dude in the opposite week so they never saw each other. Yes, it was one big ole known secret who was going out with who on what week. Had to keep that stuff straight ya know. :gsbrnint:  Yes, Keesler AFB and Pensacola would go down. Both AFB towns.

A link if anyone wants to know about the Biloxi Indians. Bet ya never heard of them huh? Oh well, they must have assimilated well huh? lol

This is a link to the town's website. Casinos are fun if you like that stuff. https://www.biloxi.ms.us/visitor-info/history/   I do not go to Biloxi much. Do not like it anymore. Too crowded. It's just a playground to go gamble now. Or you can go to Mardi Gras with the kids. Safe there for Mardi Gras.

http://www.native-languages.org/biloxi_culture.htm  This site has lots of links you can search out the different tribes if you want to explore the site.
