China wants to give all of its citizens a score

China wants to give all of its citizens a score – and their rating could affect every area of their lives

The Communist Party wants to encourage good behaviour by marking all its people using online data. Those who fall short will be denied basic freedoms like loans or travel

Imagine a world where an authoritarian government monitors everything you do, amasses huge amounts of data on almost every interaction you make, and awards you a single score that measures how “trustworthy” you are.

In this world, anything from defaulting on a loan to criticising the ruling party, from running a red light to failing to care for your parents properly, could cause you to lose points. And in this world, your score becomes the ultimate truth of who you are – determining whether you can borrow money, get your children into the best schools or travel abroad; whether you get a room in a fancy hotel, a seat in a top restaurant – or even just get a date.

This is not the dystopian superstate of Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, in which all-knowing police stop crime before it happens. But it could be China by 2020. It is the scenario contained in China's ambitious plans to develop a far-reaching social credit system, a plan that the Communist Party hopes will build a culture of “sincerity” and a “harmonious socialist society” where “keeping trust is glorious.”

Coming to a neighborhood near you......if the lefty's get their way.

Surprise they haven't mandated RFID chips in China, it would go along quite nicely with this system .

Get a bad enough score and poof goes the chip off.

I don't know what y'all are talking about. The USA already has this. Follows you everywhere. Impacts your loans, utilities, your deposits, where you can live, everything in your life. It's been here since before I was born. Only here, no one thinks anything about it. The name of this powerful institution that controls you and you do not even think about it or rage about it or anything. No one I have ever talked to is not aware of it and knows how powerful it is and the effects it is having on their lives... And in the USA.... We gave all this control away to.....

CREDIT SCORE COMPANIES........ CREDIT SCORE....

Just do a little search on "credit score impacts life". All kinds of articles come up. Tons of them. This is just a small sampling in this article. You are controlled. China is just telling their people about it in a more truthful manner?

I read this another way...China is "rating" the population.  It is the beginning of choosing which citizens are worthy to be sent to the ghost cities  enmass to survive the coming planetary destruction.  The ones with negative attitudes and practices will be staying in the flood and earthquake zones.  It may be more than credit that is in the outcome.

Netflix show Black Mirror has a prophetic episode about exactly what we are talking about. Life based on online ratings. *shivers*

And I read it the same way. lol If you have bad credit in the USA, you will not go to those pretty little ghost cities either. If you don't have cash in the USA, you are going to be staying in the flood and earthquake zones too. You are not going to be moving to a safer place because no one wants bums or people with bad credit there. When you can not get a job in a casino cleaning out toilets because of your credit score, no matter how good you are as a person or how great your references are or how well you would do the job.... And there are lots of jobs that will not take you if your credit score is bad. Apartments/houses, loans, jobs, insurance costs look at your credit score. All types of things are affected by your score but it's so normal, you do not think about it.

You have been rated. You are either a bad money risk or a good money risk. Bad money risks are considered to be trashy. People that pay off their credit cards each month are called deadbeats by the credit card companies. They don't make any money off them when they pay off the card monthly. They like you to carry a balance of around a quarter of your credit at least or you are a deadbeat. Imagine that. Responsible people are the deadbeats.   Yep, I was surprised to hear that. You would think it was the people they had to dun for their money but nope, it's the ones that pay off their cards monthly they hate.

So you can say that China is going to rate their population if you want to but that is an ongoing thing forever here in the USA. When the kids went to college, admission was not only on your grades. They wanted to know what else the kid did. School clubs, football, cheerleading, ect. They wanted 'well rounded' students is the way it was explained to me. I thought that was a crock of crap too. I was in band in school. Chess club in jr high one year. That's it. I wasn't into school junk. But now-a-days, they want that on your resume for college.

I look around and find we are rated all the time.

And I consider credit companies as what they state they are. Rating companies. Good credit can do things. Bad credit can not. What's the difference in systems? The end result is the same. The USA has three credit agencies that most people use. Just three. And you are in all three of them too. ;)
