New York Stock Exchange Trading Halted Due To Technical Problem

Trading on the New York Stock Exchange has been temporarily halted due to some sort of a technical glitch.

Officials said that at 11:32 a.m., there seemed to be a major technical issue with the NYSE system, CBS News business analyst Jill Schlesinger reported.

“We’re currently experiencing a technical issue that we’re working to resolve as quickly as possible,” a Stock Exchange spokeswoman said in an email to CBS2. “We will be providing further updates as soon as we can, and are doing our utmost to produce a swift resolution, communicate thoroughly and transparently, and ensure a timely and orderly market re-open.”

The issue seemed to be confined to the New York Stock Exchange. The Nasdaq was up in trading just before noon, Schlesinger reported.

“Obviously there is something in the mainframe of the New York Stock Exchange that is not allowing quotes to be disseminated,” financial expert Art Hogan told CBS News. “I’m sure it’s being worked on as quickly as possible, and we’re going to try to get trading back up and going.”

After a series of cyber failures involving first UAL, then this website, then the NYSE which is still halted, then the WSJ, some have suggested that this could be a concerted cyber attack focusing on the US. So we decided to look at a real-time cyber attack map courtesy of Norsecorp which provides real time visibility into global cyber attacks.
