Northern Lights Shine Bright In Minneapolis

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Stargazers in the US city of Minneapolis have been enjoying a rare glimpse of the northern lights.

They are not usually seen as far south as Minnesota, but a powerful solar storm meant residents were able to view them.

The breathtaking spectacle was captured on video by Steve Baranski, a member of the Minnesota Astronomical Society.

Also known as an aurora borealis, the northern lights occur during a solar flare.

Charged particles from the sun penetrate the earth's magnetic shield and collide with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere.
