San Francisco (CNN)Making his second call in as many days for tighter gun control laws, President Barack Obama on Friday told a crowd of mayors it was again time for a national conversation on the scourge of mass shootings in America.

"We need a change in attitude," Obama said in remarks to the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in San Francisco. He said the country was "shocked and heartbroken" by the shooting deaths of nine churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina this week.

The morning after the shooting, Obama made a direct and personal call for bolstering gun control laws from the White House, admitting the current balance of power in Washington makes any meaningful action unlikely.

Here we go again, exploiting another shooting for more gun control. They are determined to disarm as many Americans as they can. If the agenda is not clear by now, then it never will be. We need a change in attitude all right but it's not what he means.

Im so sick of Obammie and his gun control agenda. If people want to kill, anything and everything can be used as a weapon. This guy killed 3 people and injured 34 with his car! yesterday. I guess we should ban cars next.

A man apparently distraught over personal issues drove his SUV into a crowd in Austria's second largest city Saturday, killing a 4-year old and two adults, officials said.

Police in the city of Graz said 34 others were injured, with six victims, including two children, in serious condition. They said there were no indications of a terrorist attack, and the suspect was apparently distressed over personal problems when he targeted his victims.

Obama is right.  We do need a change of attitude.  We need to revive that old attitude that it was a citizen's duty to protect oneself and others, using whatever force was necessary.  Today's mindset is to run and hide and wait for the police to show up.  It was the old attitude that gave rise to derringer production - so that the ladies had a lethal firearm that would fit into their purses.
