Skype users are having problems logging in and receiving messages, with the service down across much of the US. Northeastern states are the most affected, according to Down Detector.

Much of southern England, Spain, Japan and Ecuador are also facing problems, as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia.

The company addressed the messaging issues on its blog, describing it as “an incident” with its service.

According to a Microsoft Skype spokesperson, “As was true before the Microsoft acquisition, Skype co-operates with law enforcement agencies as is legally required and technically feasible.” So what the heck does that mean?
