Several cases examined, interesting connections to Slenderman, and the predictive programming of the Man in Black.

I think more children are growing up with a spiritual void nowadays. Perhaps that makes them vulnerable to "mass possession".
Simply picking up on the hysteria of those around them because they don't have a solid belief themselves. I could be wrong though.
However, as far as true shadow beings... they're harmless. They may occasionally show curiosity but most of them don't seem to notice us.

According to Don Juan, the sorcerers of ancient Mexico called the predator, the flyer

"because it leaps through the air... It is a big shadow, impenetrably black, a black shadow that jumps through the air."

This description matches thousands of accounts of the bizarre jumping movements, sometimes sideways, executed by alien Greys who accost people at random. Fleeting black shadows are less often reported, but they play the major role in the long and detailed report of alien activity by John Keel, The Mothman Prophecies.

Gnostic writings contain descriptions of alien predators called Archons, Arkontai in Greek. The texts from Nag Hammadi describe them as heavy, elusive, shadowy creatures. The most common name for them is "beings of the likeness, shadow-creatures."

Could the Archons be compared to the "mud shadows" described by Don Juan?

I remember seeing this lately on my  rough draft thread,

hatman?

I think Hatman may be the same entity I call Mist Man.
If so it's an observer. It watches from a distance and never interacts.
They might be talking about something else though. Something like this:

I've heard about the Hat Man encounters... Pretty disturbing in my opinion.

I haven't looked into Hat Man.
What little I've heard made me think of Mist Man.
That's not something I like to think about too often.
But now I feel like they may be different entities.
Can you share the stories you've heard?
