North Korea apparently took a big step towards missiles that could reach Pacific US bases

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea took a significant step Wednesday in the development of a powerful ballistic missile intended to reach U.S. bases in the Pacific, launching one of the weapons about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) high after five failed attempts in recent months.

The North's suspected Musudan tests worry Washington and its allies, Tokyo and Seoul, because the missile's potential 3,500-kilometer (2,180-mile) range puts much of Asia and the Pacific, including U.S. military bases there, within reach.

If they really wanted to hit US bases all they have to do is lob one of their rockets 20 or 30 miles into South Korea.

They need to drop a Rod from God on this guy, just to introduce him to the  to the big leagues. We wouldn't get much notice after launch from NK. Space based missile defense would be our only chance of stopping them. I wonder if the THAAD batteries are operational in Japan yet??

I think your right, it was patriots they put in Japan. THAAD could be very effective once fully debugged, not sure where they are with the development. Patriot has much more deployment time. Lil Kim is just too unpredictable. I know there are 6 carrier battle groups deployed, sounds like theyou don't want carriers to be easy targets in port.

THAAD Battery to be Permanently Deployed in Guam (July 16, 2015)

The U.S. Army has announced plans to make the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system in Guam permanent. This would be the first permanent deployment of a THAAD battery outside the continental United States.  The Army has released a fact sheet and draft environmental assessment about the proposed permanent basing and has already held two public meetings in Guam about it.
