Sen. Tom Cotton really, really, really doesn’t like Harry Reid

Up until this point, Sen. Tom Cotton's (R-Ark.) distaste for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has mostly manifested itself in parliamentary gamesmanship — interesting stuff for regular C-SPAN watchers but maybe not rising to the level of water cooler talk for the rest of us.

But on Wednesday, the outspoken and sometimes colorfully worded freshman senator took his Reid-hating game to a whole new level. As Politico's Burgess Everett reported, Cotton just couldn't hold it in anymore how much he despises Reid after spending the past year-plus hearing him talk (Cotton joined the Senate in 2015). Cotton smashed through decorum on the typically reserved Senate floor to say this about Reid, who had just been bashing Republicans for rushing through a defense bill.

"I'm forced to listen to the bitter, vulgar, incoherent ramblings of the minority leader," Cotton said. "Normally, like every other American, I ignore them. I can't ignore them today. . . . When was the last time the minority leader read a bill? It was probably an electricity bill."

Cotton wasn't done there. He also had this to say about the fact the Senate is working the least amount in 60 years, which is the last year Reid is in office before he retires:

"Whatever you think about that, the happy by-product of fewer days in session in the Senate is that this institution will be cursed less with his cancerous leadership," Cotton said.
