Venezuela opposition slams 'desperate' Maduro state of emergency

Venezuela's opposition on Saturday slammed a state of emergency decreed by President Nicolas Maduro and vowed to press home efforts to remove the leftist leader this year amid a grim economic crisis.

Maduro on Friday night declared a 60-day state of emergency due to what he called plots from Venezuela and the United States to subvert him. He did not provide specifics.

The measure shows Maduro is panicking as a push for a recall referendum against him gains traction with tired, frustrated Venezuelans, opposition leaders said during a protest in Caracas.

"We're talking about a desperate president who is putting himself on the margin of legality and constitutionality," said Democratic Unity coalition leader Jesus Torrealba, adding Maduro was losing support within his own bloc.

"If this state of emergency is issued without consulting the National Assembly, we would technically be talking about a self-coup," he told hundreds of supporters who waved Venezuelan flags and chanted "he's going to fall."

Brazil's pres is under impeachment and going on trial (forced to step down)  and Argentina might have a chance since they traded their left wing Peronist for a conservative one. But who knows?

They have plenty of oil but uh, some big cartel drove down the price so after the country falls the pickins will be easy and the price even better. This is how you control the market by bankrupting others and in fact, how the rich got richer during the depression. The method works every century as long as greedy oligarchs are allowed to run this game.

Uh, couldn't listen to creepy voice on that video. The 2nd video in this article is very disturbing showing how the military are beating up protesters. I didn't post the video directly because it requires a sign-in on youtube. The guy with his pants down is really sad to watch but strangely the next guy to get the bat got to keep his pants. This is how socialism er communism operates by shutting down the opposition...a page from the Bolshevik playbook.

OPEC doesn't seem to mind. If it's such poor quality who are they exporting it to? Maybe their gold and diamonds suck too.

Venezuela’s oil revenues account for about 95 per cent of export earnings. The oil and gas sector is around 25 per cent of gross domestic product. Apart from petroleum, the country’s natural resources include natural gas, iron ore, gold, bauxite, diamonds and other minerals.

It was there number one last year, when oil was over 100 a barrel. They were selling under 100.

Ok, my dear, but you are quite contrary. The point is Venezuela has been looted and vultures are circling to pick up the spoils while they care not for the people.
