Yee haww! Texas House approves open carry bill

14 posts in this topic

DALLAS, April 18 (UPI) -- The overwhelmingly Republican Texas House or Representatives favored a bill Friday permitting open carry, which is to go into effect next year.

Approved on a 96-35 vote, the bill allows Texans to carry licensed handguns in unhidden holsters. Previously, only concealed handguns and pistols were allowed, with a permit, although long guns like rifles -- which do not require a license -- can be carried openly.

"It's time to go ahead and take this next step," the bill's author, Rep. Larry Phillips, said. "It's time to join the ranks of states like Massachusetts...and allow our citizens to have this right."

Most Democrats opposed the bill, citing disapproval from Texas police officials.

Texas is poised to become the largest state in the U.S. to allow citizens to openly carry handguns, a change long sought by gun-rights activists.

The Texas House of Representatives on Friday voted 96-35 to allow residents with concealed-handgun licenses to openly carry their guns in public in holsters.

Licensed gun owners? That's the key fraze now isn't it. Why is it that  99% of the states surrounding Texas has a "NO PERMIT NEEDED" open carry and all Texas and the GOP can muster is only permit holders can open carry? Typical GOP horseshit. All talk and half ass show. Texas boast a lot about freedom issues but when it comes right down to it they still don't come through when it comes to "RIGHTS". I open carry every day "NO PERMIT NEEDED" I wonder how much the NRA played in to that to get their membership in Texas to accept that bullshit watered down law?

Guess all God could bless Texas with is a half assed law that only allows "permit holders" to open carry. You can open carry a AR-Rifle in Texas without a permit but not a hand gun. That's soooooooo pathedic.

I think in Ohio,  when the bill is passed,  it will be for LEGAL GUN OWNERS.

As it should be in my opinion.  Legally allowed to purchase? Good,  Legally allowed to open carry.

our town forbids the open carry policy. fines, and jailtime. earlier this year our town had a gun buy back program, give up gun and receive 100 dollars. so i gave up my glock 9mm.

Dude...

If we had a slappy smilie I would put it here.

You could have sold it for much more if you didn't want it.

I think the police destroy them.

A couple years ago the Seattle gun buy back got hijacked buy gun dealers.

I agree with Robert50, it shouldn't only be for those with a cc permit.

Open carry is for those without one.

If your state law says you can open carry then your town is in violation of state law. Depending on what state you live in that is. local towns cannot countermand state law......period! You gave up your glock 9mm for 100 dollars? If so then you should not have purchased it to begin with if you are that half-witted to sell back a 500 dollar hand gun for 100 dollars.
