The headline should read Officials shocked Germans have a sense of self preservation.

81% of Germans say Merkel has made a mess of the migrant situation as her popularity hits five-year low

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s popularity ratings have plunged to five-year low in the wake of the refugee crisis engulfing her country.

In the latest poll by broadcaster ARD, a massive 81 per cent of Germans do not think she has a handle on the asylum seekers problem.

It came as the government said more than 91,000 asylum seekers arrived last month, underlining the pressure the country faces to diminish the influx of migrants.

On a personal level Mrs Merkel lost 12 points from a poll conducted last month and now has an approval rating of just 46 percent.
-----
Mrs Merkel has seen her political capital squandered in the past few weeks as a series of ugly incidents involving migrants have served to unite people against her.
-----
Then came evidence that police forces nationwide were suppressing immigrant crime or simply not pursuing migrant offenders.

How can her approval rating be 46%? The real number is probably 4%.

Where do you think it was start? Germany? France? Britain?

France has been dealing with it for longer and the only place I hear much about is Calais.
I think Germany is still in some shock. When that wears off it could get real ugly fast.
Where ever it starts I think other areas will quickly follow. It can't continue this way.

Crowd cheer fire at hotel being converted into refugee shelter in Saxony

Suspected arson comes three days after protesters blocked bus carrying asylum seekers in east German state

A fire that destroyed a hotel being converted into a shelter for refugees in Saxony was cheered and celebrated by onlookers, German police have said.

The blaze at the building in Bautzen, eastern Saxony, began in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police are treating the incident as suspected arson. No one was injured.

Locals had cheered as the building caught fire, police said. “Some people reacted to the arson with derogatory comments and undisguised joy.”
-----
The fire happened just days after about 100 protesters screamed “We are the people!” and “Go home!”as they blocked a bus carrying asylum seekers to a shelter in Saxony.
