President Obama Will Put a Freeze on New Coal Mines

6 posts in this topic

Expect an announcement this morning.

The Obama administration is due on Friday to announce an overhaul of how the U.S. manages coal development on federal land, and freeze new coal mining, according to government and conservationist sources, in a further move to confront climate change.

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell is expected to make the announcement Friday morning from New Mexico, one of five western states with tens of thousands of acres under lease.

President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address on Tuesday said he would “change the way we manage our oil and coal resources, so that they better reflect the costs they impose on taxpayers and our planet.”

The new plan will require federal officials, when weighing land use decisions, to consider how burning coal could worsen climate change, said sources familiar with the plans.

Hummm...I wonder how people will keep their lights on when King Putt gets rid of all the coal?

Check out the graphics, they paint an interesting picture: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/power-plants/

There are 511 coal-powered electric plants in the U.S. They have generated 34 percent of the nation’s electricity this year.

The leading fuel for electricity generation in the country, coal is most popular in the Midwest, Appalachia and the East Coast, but is also the primary source in Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Arizona. It generated the vast majority of the nation’s electricity in the late 1980s but now creates one-third with natural gas gaining steadily. Coal is the chief source of electricity in 22 states and creates a majority of the electrical power in 14 states.

Bankers already own many utility companies. Expect a rate increase and close monitoring via smart meter. You humans are a scourge on the planet and ruining the climate !!! Never mind that elites and corporations inflict the majority of the damage...like Nestle that pumps water from the aquifer that by rights you own in the first place.

Obama: My Plan Makes Electricity Rates Skyrocket

Barack Obama: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." (January 2008)

One thing he DIDN'T lie about.
