Legally armed citizenry seen as mass-shooting, terrorism deterrent

While Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, decried Republicans for being “complicit” in recent mass shootings, several law enforcement authorities said Thursday that there is a case to be made that licensed gun owners may act as deterrents to mass shooters.

“I think after Paris, and as we learn more about this event [in San Bernardino] we need to be nimble enough and pragmatic enough to recognize that there’s definitely a small number of documented mass-casualty shootings that have been ended by off-duty law enforcement and civilians,” said Eugene O’Donnell, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

A former police officer, Mr. O’Donnell said about half of mass shootings are finished before the first officer arrives, given that “these are people that are coming in to kill.”

It seems to me that the politicians should be listening to the people who are in law enforcement, not the other way around.

What, common sense? Mr. O'Donnell will undoubtedly be punished for his impertinence.

California lawmakers revive gun control ideas after San Bernardino attack

The mass shooting in San Bernardino has state lawmakers looking again at new gun control legislation for California, while leading advocates for restrictions called Friday for the state to close a loophole that allows detachable ammunition magazines like one used by the killers.

Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) said he will  revisit some proposals that previously stalled, and an assemblyman proposed banning the sale of guns to those on a federal "no-fly" list.

When your government works against you and there is no there to protect you, it is YOUR responsibility to protect yourself. Its NOT a right granted by government, its a GUARANTEE that government will not TAKE that ability from you. The mere fact that we have to have this discussion is further evidence that government is in breach of contract with the people. THATS WHAT THE 2ns AMENDMENT IS FOR! KEEPING A TYRANNICAL GOVT IN CHECK!
