Obama Administration Threatens States to Admit Syrian Refugees or Face ‘Enforcement Action’

16 posts in this topic

The Obama administration has warned states to comply with federal efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in communities around the U.S. or else find their states subject to enforcement action.

In a letter this week, the Office of Refugee Resettlement threatens states concerned about resettling Syrians with punitive responses if they refuse to accept the refugees. ORR explains that states may not refuse ORR-funded benefits for refugees on the basis of religion and national origin.

“Accordingly, states may not categorically deny ORR-funded benefits and services to Syrian refugees,” ORR Director Robert Carey wrote in the letter. “Any state with such a policy would not be in compliance with the State Plan requirements, applicable statutes, and their own assurances, and could be subject to enforcement action, including suspension and termination.”

The agency also pointed to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibiting discrimination for federally funded assistance benefits. Refugees are immediately eligible for welfare and other benefits upon admission to the U.S.

“Thus, it is not permissible to deny federally funded benefits such as Medicaid or [Temporary Assistance for Needy Families] to refugees who otherwise meet the eligibilities requirements,” the letter reads. “ORR is committed to ensuring that all refugees receive assistance and services vital to achieving their potential in the United States and becoming self-sufficient, integrated members of our communities.”

Wait until programs are cut off statewide for everyone because states refuse the refugees.  Who's going to get the blame? Most won't know about this until their money is threatened to be cut off.

Well, gee. If they don't accept the refugees in the first place, then I guess the States aren't denying them ORR-funded benefits, right?

Or is this the not so subtle way of the Feds telling the States that, like it or not, refugees will be smuggled into their states?

Wasn't this supposed to be a union of 50 sovereign states (nations)?

Or in BO's case, 57 or 58.

Except for interstate highways and a standing army made up of states' national guards, each state was SUPPOSED to have self-rule. States' rights! What the hell happened?

"Or else find their states subject to enforcement action."

Is Obama threatening us? What sort of enforcement action is he talking about? Cut off federal funding to states who refuse to take in the homeless Syrians? Texas will be just fine without the federal government sticking their nose in our business.

Hey Obama...If Texas was a nation, we would be the 12th largest in the world...Bring IT! We will do just fine without you and without your Syrian squatters.

Here's what they do. Ever notice how the percentage of state tax is way less than what you pay in for Federal taxes? The Feds take all the federal withholding money from the people who live in the states and then give it back to the state they live in, but there are catches to that. lmao What a convoluted way to do business. So, if there is a federally funded thing, like public schools and there are kids absent, the state doesn't get the money for each day the kid isn't there. That's why they made it a law that kids have to attend school.

The last time I checked, California loses about 20 % of the money that is paid to the feds. It happens to other states, too. Then other states get that money handed over to them. Socialist much?

That's why we send aholes to Congress, to try and get money for us that is ours to begin with. You hear about pork projects. That's where that money comes from and whoever can get the most pork for their state WINS!

Anyone who doesn't think this country has turned socialist is not looking at what they need to look at. Since when did the Constitution allow for this kind of money management? I don't even know how it got that way, from the creation of the IRS to the Federal Reserve bank, all created around the same time and when most of Congress was celebrating Christmas in 1913 is how they pulled off the biggest part of the coup. I guess the rest of it has evolved as a result of paper laws created by Congress over the last century or so.

Our central government was supposed to be small and unobtrusive. The founders even worried that Congress might not show up so they made a rule they had to once a year. Now look at them! They're all like mini kings and queens with their fancy carriages, footmen, expense accounts, extremely high salaries with great perks and assistants and staff.

I was watching this movie the other day, it was black and white, I forgot the name of it, it was really old. The guy was a government employee and he didn't have the money to feed his family. Now we don't have money to feed ours because they make so much money and have such great perks that they make more than the people who pay their salary. How long can that last along with all the social programs we have to pay for? The fed loves printing money, but they only give it to other banks, none of it makes it to the people unless they borrow it and pay interest on it.

And now, if the states don't take in foreigners, they are going to cut off benefits to U.S. citizens, like medicaid and food stamps.

If that happens there will be blood in the streets. I've always thought that would be a good way to kick off a civil war. Just pull that single plug and it would result in instant chaos on all levels.

ORR is this:

http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/orr

Make sure you click on About us and see how many refugees have been settle here. In 2014, there were 69,000 of them.

They have all kinds of programs to help them get started here. Too bad some of that effort isn't being expended on our own people who need skills and jobs and opportunities. I was wondering why all the corner stores are owned by foreigners.

Ooooo, I had not thought of that. Dayum, what a government we have.

Correction: what a bunch of lazy patsies we are to let this happen, over and over again.
