ISIS Suicide Bombers Threaten ASEAN Summit

8 posts in this topic

If ISIS was going to blow something up this would be the place to do it.  World leaders are in town for the Summit, including Obama.

KUALA LUMPUR - The chief of Malaysian police said late Thursday that they have yet to confirm information about the presence of alleged Islamic State suicide bombers in Kuala Lumpur, where leaders from 18 countries including the United States, Japan, China and Thailand gather this weekend for a series of meetings.

In a press statement, Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar responded to the disclosure by Malaysiakini, an online news daily, of an internal police circular warning of the presence of suicide bombers, in Kuala Lumpur and in Sabah state on Borneo.

Khalid had earlier confirmed the authenticity of the circular.

Malaysia has arrested suspected ISIS members and sympathisers within the past week but has not linked them to threats against the Asean summit.

"There have been reports of imminent terrorist threats in Malaysia," he said. "At this point, I would like to underline that they have yet to be confirmed."

The circular, dated Monday, was reported to have originated from Sabah police based on intelligence gathered from a meeting held Sunday between the IS and its Philippines-based allies, the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group and the Moro National Liberation Front, who are fighting for an independent Muslim state.

The meeting in Sulu, southern Philippines was attended by "14 leaders from the three outfits and 50 members of Abu Sayyaf armed with M16 rifles, pistols and bombs," according to the circular. They reportedly resolved among others, to recruit more members and to dispatch their followers to Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.

The circular said that Abu Sayyaf and ISIS already have eight suicide bombers in Sabah and 10 in Kuala Lumpur and called for tightening of surveillance and patrols, according to Malaysiakini.

"These suicide bombers underwent military training in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as prepared to receive orders from their leaders to launch attacks/bombings," the online daily quoted the circular as saying.

"There have been reports of imminent terrorist threats in Malaysia. At this point, I would like to underline that they have yet to be confirmed.

"However, security forces are taking all possible precautions and there is no room for complacency.

"There is no greater priority than the safety of the Malaysian people and all our guests," Khalid said in a statement tonight.

Khalid had earlier confirmed the authenticity of a leaked internal police memo on the presence of suicide bombers in Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.

He told news portal Malaysiakini he regretted the leak of the document, but assured that police were monitoring all potential threats, and action was being taken to neutralise or thwart suicide bombers.

The memo reportedly contained details of a meeting on November 15 between representatives of militant groups Abu Sayyaf, Isis and the Moro National Liberation Front.

Aside from Obama and Xi, eight other non-Asean leaders plan to attend the summit, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo Ahn.

Asean is comprised of Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Almost sounds like the plot for the most recent Star Trek movie, where Khan stages a crisis so all the brass would meet together in one spot, then blasts the daylights out of the meeting room.

I was just about to head to bed, checked, yeah, still have a facebook account - though this crisis is outing a LOT of long time friends as to how utterly clueless they are.

One posted a photo of an ad, "The Satanic Temple, San Jose Chapter" offers to escort any muslim "afraid to leave their homes due to fear of some kind of 'backlash'". *SIGH* This from a very gay friend I've known online for over 20 years.  Completely incapable of believing the truth, that these people make the most bigoted Christian I've ever met look positively warm and snuggly. They would never even entertain the idea of learning about their religion, as since it's not "mainstream", and not related TO Christianity, it must be wonderful and beyond scrutiny. AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGH!!!!

How to keep fools from getting themselves killed.  Not my monkeys, not my circus any more. I truly wish they'd be "open minded" enough to even read importantly-twisted bits of the texts. Yet even then, they'd Never believe it actually means, literally, what it SAYS.

On that note, to blazes with idiots for the night. Try to find some joy in this utter cluster-2#$@#$ our country, no world is getting itself into.

Sunshine tomorrow, I'm going to kick in some punk and hunt photo ops! 8-)

And I thought I was the only one saying "not my circus, not my monkeys"! :chuckle:

I left Faceplant earlier this year. I used to post lots of news that should have awakened a lot of people, but it only seemed to make them sleepier. You really do get to the point of not being able to care anymore.

Interesting. A few people have been saying they were not prepared to think ISIS was real or anything other than an intel operation until they started to take out politicians rather than ordinary people.

Threats are psychological warfare. They have a bigger "hit" area than actual warfare which only hits a few people.

My nation's PM is at the ASEAN meetings. He is a former banker and worked at the FED for two years before being "shoulder tapped" to get into NZ politics to become NZ's PM.

Considering the amount of leaders at the summit I would be surprised with all the security if anything could come close to them.

Mind you if they were eliminated nothing in the world would change. Politicians don't make things happen. When the NZ parliment goes on it's six weeks holiday every year the nation runs just the same without them (except with more stability because no rules or laws are going to change while they are on holiday) as it does with them.

If the truck drivers all went on holiday for six weeks the nation would fall. Same with the general working population who sells and produces day to day goods. In that context you see politicians are not really necessary for day to day life. All they really have done is make life more restrictive and more expensive for people.
