Why rejecting Syrian refugees won’t make America safer

11 posts in this topic

On both sides of the Atlantic, last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris have made governments already leery about accepting refugees fleeing the Islamic State in Syria downright opposed to it. Poland’s new government has said it won’t commit to hosting any more asylum seekers, and 23 U.S. governors have announced they’d rather not either — even if state governments don't have the authority to reject people from any particular country, they could make refugees' lives so difficult that they'll wish they hadn't come.

So would keeping refugees out actually make anybody safer?

It’s a complicated question, and the answers differ from region to region. Few experts deny that it’s possible for terrorists to conceal themselves among large crowds of refugees in some areas — for example, Al-Shabaab has infiltratedthe flow of Somalis fleeing conflict into Kenya. But even fewer think that sealing off borders is likely to prevent future attacks, either.

Take the example of the fake Syrian passport that was found near the bodies of one of the attackers who died in the assault on the Bataclan. Records showthat it may have come through a checkpoint at the Greek island of Leros, which has been inundated with refugees. The attackers named so far by French authorities are all European nationals, although there remain at least three unidentified suspects.

"In the long term it’s certainly possible that the Islamic State would use these routes. But it’s our assessment at the moment that this is an isolated case,” says Jan Gerhard, an analyst with the global research firm IHS. “Most people who come to Europe actually are fleeing the very same reasons that Western societies are at risk. The much higher risk at the moment is coming from people who are already in the countries in Western Europe."

Even on the most superficial level, rejecting them means rejecting islam, and sealing borders means preservation of national sovereignty. There are indeed a million ways to infiltrate a country, but openly allowing foreigners to trash the host country is national suicide.

Time for change has come and gone. Like the article stated most of the terrorist were nationals. Here in the U.S. We have seen our demographics change, press 1 for English. While our two sided two faced congress argued over border controls, more illegals from many nationalities poured into our country than, all the refugees storming the eu Put together. The terror groups have been here for years, setting up, just waiting for the right time. When the illunatics are ready, they will strike. Press 3 for Arabic.

I truly was floored at this blatant blackmailing. I mean, these "moderates" are perfectly peaceful, good people. But if we don't take them in, they will join with and become one of a bunch of murdering, raping monsters?!?!?!

Not very trustworthy if they can switch mentalities THAT severe, ARE they?

Allowing in ANY Muslim in is a risk.
Before 1965 no Arabs were allowed.
I want our old immigration policies back.

America's 'enemies within': How nearly SEVENTY have been arrested in America over ISIS plots in last 18 months - including refugees who had been given safe haven but 'turned to terror'

US authorities have charged at least 66 men and women with ISIS-related terror plots on American soil – including a handful of refugees, Daily Mail Online can reveal.

The terror group has set its sights on Washington, D.C. as it vows to further infiltrate the West and ramp up its blood-soaked offensive.

President Obama insists that 'slamming the door' on Syrian refugees fleeing ISIS would be a betrayal of American values.

But 34 governors are refusing to take in any more, in case jihadi fighters slip into their states and repeat the carnage of Paris.

Analysis by Daily Mail Online reveals that a handful of foiled plots have already involved immigrants accused of harboring sympathy for ISIS.

The threat also comes from within, with American teenagers and Islamic converts among those seduced by the group’s torrent of chilling online propaganda.

They include a U.S. Air Force veteran accused of waging war on the country he once served and a National Guard soldier who allegedly plotted to gun down his own colleagues.

Others are seemingly ordinary American citizens, including a young nurse, a pizza parlor boss and schoolgirls tricked into becoming shrouded ISIS brides.

Some have conspired to travel or send friends abroad to link up with fundamentalist fighters while others have planned for jihad closer to home - with Capitol Hill among the targets for a foiled bombing raid.

The incidents detailed here are among dozens of alleged disrupted by police and federal agents since ISIS began to rise from the flames of the Syrian civil war.  The earliest arrest was 18 months ago.

They include:
