Los Angeles to declare state of emergency on homelessness, spend $100 million

6 posts in this topic

Yes! The economy is great! 100 million isn't anything compared to what's needed. Something has to give. Homeless people are all over the state of California and they live in tents in extremely dry areas and use campfires to cook and stay warm. Lots of wild fires have been started because of this. Their established camps are full of garbage and human excrement. Many are mentally ill, drug addicts and alcoholics. They roam the areas looking for homes to break into and squat in empty houses, I know one person who works away from home for 2 weeks at a time and they were living in her house while she was gone! How creepy is that?  Anyway, this situation has been brewing here in Cali for a long, long time and L.A. is not the only place with a problem. There are also a lot of families who hit hard times due to job loss. The ones with kids are luckier, at least the state will help them out more than the single people. How did it get this way? The usual suspects who live in gated communities and have their own private security, namely government who couldn't balance a budget if their lives depended on it or spend on real problems. Homeless people suffer as well as everyone that lives close to them. Out of sight, out of the politician's minds, no doubt.

Los Angeles to declare state of emergency on homelessness, spend $100 million

LOS ANGELES — It's no secret to people who walk or drive the streets of Los Angeles that homeless people — tens of thousands of them — are everywhere.

On Tuesday, having looked at numbers showing the city's homeless population has increased more than 10% over the past two years, officials announced they have decided enough is enough.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and several other elected officials stood outside City Hall — a few feet from several homeless people dozing on a lawn — to announce they plan to declare a state of emergency on homelessness and spend $100 million to eradicate it.

"These are our fellow Angelinos," the mayor said. "They are those who have no other place to go, and they are literally here where we work, a symbol of our city's intense crisis."

Six blocks away, on the city's notorious Skid Row, thousands more live permanently in tents, makeshift cardboard shelters and sometimes just on the sidewalk itself.

"If you walk five blocks south and one block over, you'll enter the largest concentration of homeless in the country — about 4,000 homeless living in Skid Row," said Councilman Jose Huizar, who co-chairs the City Council's homelessness & poverty committee.

"Unfortunately, that is just a small percentage of the city's homeless population," he continued. "Yes, 85% of the city's homeless population lives outside of Skid Row, throughout the city."

That's awesome. And really, when the government is hiding and shifting trillions into their own wallets, isn't it nice to see some of those tax dollars paid actually go to someone that needs it instead of some guy that sells death for a living?

Did they figure out why so many people are homeless? Nah, but let's throw 100 million at it for some kind of temporary solution. Hey, doesn't FEMA have some camps already in place? Another gov circle jerk.

Liberal West Coasters simply do not understand madame.

Maybe too much sun and sand being ingested.

Homelessness has and always been a problem.

Not all homeless are bums and bag ladies.

Many are unfortunate Americans simply down on their luck.

Always nice to hear from you Madame.

God bless.
