I Will Light You Up: Cop Goes Ballistic In Video of Sandra Bland Arrest

11 posts in this topic

Texas police have released chilling, almost hour-long video footage of the dubious July 10 arrest of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman found dead in her cell three days later, though several documentary filmmakers and others have now charged it's been edited. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers and FBI have launched investigations into an arrest that never should have happened, activists are demanding transparency, her family has sought an independent inquiry, and the D.A. has said her alleged suicide is being investigated as thoroughly as a murder case because "there are too many questions that still need to be resolved."

The arrest of Bland, a Black Lives Matter activist, in what has been called “the most racist county in (one) of the most racist states in the country” began with state trooper Brian Encinia pulling Bland over for failing to signal a lane change - really - and escalates after Bland made clear her irritation. In quick succession, Encinia threatens to taser her, tries to yank her from the car, screams "I'll light you up!" and ends up pummeling Bland on the ground. Three days later, Bland was found hanging in her cell; there's also new video of jail personnel finding her body and calling in medical help. Amidst protests, vigils, outraged calls for justice and trending social media campaigns like the hashtag , the vital question has been, in the words of one Tweet, "Dear white people, any of you EVER been pulled over for a lane change? Did you end up dead?" Beware: The footage of the traffic stop, with its palpable sense of dread and furious unraveling of the cop, is stomach-churningly difficult to watch.

There's  one that showed up a few months ago of a young white guy pulled over for flashing his lights at a cop. The cop argued with him saying his cop car lights were on dim. The young guy respectfully repeated that the cop car's lights were on bright.

Handcuffed on the ground and tasered, the perp somehow got free and tried to kill the cop, who responded with deadly force. He had enough sense to give himself a black eye when he had to report the unfortunate incident, which never made it to national attention.

We only hear of white on black crimes. Isn't that interesting.

Yep, this one and it swept under the rug quickly.

No charges in police shooting of Deven Guilford

An Eaton County Sheriff's sergeant's actions in a fatal shooting in February were lawful, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd said he reviewed the investigation by Michigan State Police, video from Sgt. Jonathan Frost's body camera and footage from the cell phone of 17-year-old Deven Guilford, who was filming the traffic stop after being pulled over by Frost near Grand Ledge. Frost's patrol vehicle did not have a dash camera.

Guilford, who was unarmed, was shocked with a stun gun after not complying with Frost's commands and then was shot seven times following an altercation with the officer.

"No one wins in these particular situations, but it's the prosecutor's responsibility to look at the facts, make a determination from the facts — was there a crime or was there not a crime?" Lloyd said.

Guilford's family said they will seek justice elsewhere following Lloyd's decision.

The lawyer for the family called Frost's actions "unreasonable" and said the family is planning a federal civil lawsuit.

Thanks, Lucy, you are an outstanding researcher.

This cop has a license to kill. Apparently, cops now think they have the right to murder anyone who doesn't respect their authority. Funny how the camera quit working after the boy was on his belly on the ground.

Ms. Bland, with a history of unpaid traffic fines upwards of $3,000, receives a warning from the officer and then proceeds to blow cigarette smoke in his face and mouths off. WHY? A normal person would just be thankful they only received a warning especially having outstanding warrants in another state and drove on. Her family doesn't bail her out of jail?

I'm not defending the cop as he clearly lost his cool but something doesn't add up about this activist from Illinois and her new job in Texas.

If you watch the entire video you will see that the Officer was being very polite until Ms Bland started mouthing off.

The officer asked her, How long have you been in Texas? She replied, Got here yesterday. Then he said, Are you Ok? You seem irritated! That is when everything went down hill because of her attitude and foul mouth. From the dash cam video we see there was a black female Officer called to the scene to cuff her.

Sandra Bland's death ruled suicide by hanging

The cause of Sandra Bland's death was hanging; the manner of death was suicide, a prosecutor told reporters, citing preliminary autopsy results.

Warren Diepraam, a Waller County, Texas, prosecutor, provided new details Thursday to support those findings.

Bland -- a black woman whose arrest and, days later, death in custody stirred anger nationwide -- did not have injuries on her hands. Defensive injuries there are typical, though not always found, in cases of violent homicide, Diepraam said.

"There were no bite marks or other injuries on her face, on her lips, on her tongue, which would be consistent with a violent struggle," he said.

If there had been a violent struggle, the prosecutor said, examiners would most likely not expect to see a uniform and consistent mark around Bland's neck -- which is what they, in fact, observed. They also did not observe damage to her trachea and esophagus, which they might expect to see if there had been a violent struggle, he said.

She did have approximately 30 "cut marks," on her left wrist, according to Diepraam, which were in a state of healing. Bland also had lacerations or abrasions on her wrists, which are consistent with being handcuffed and struggling, he said.

Additionally, she had scabs on her back, on the right side of her shoulder blade, which could indicate that someone applied force there, or that she applied force against an object,Diepraam said. He told reporters Bland had marijuana in her system at the time of her death.
-----
The same day early autopsy results were released, CNN obtained a report that shows guards in the jail that held Bland violated policies by failing to do timely checks on inmates.

I've seen videos of citizens calling the cops "fucking cowards," and "you piece of shit," etc and they were white or "other" and knew the law. So CGK, your post seems to try and

make it seem like "she had murder coming to her." Also the video is edited for some "mysterious" reason. They cut out part of the dashcam video. What happened there and why did they do this edit?

If you're incarcerated and tell them you are suicidal, they put you in a cell and have to check on you every fifteen minutes. You telling me she found a way to kill her self in fifteen minutes? It is NOT easy to "hang yourself" in Jail. Plus she was pissed and wanted to get back at the cops for doing what she did. How are you going to do that when you're dead? Texas is NOTORIOUS for abuse of authority with police. Remember when the state trooper tazed a seventy something year old grandma because she was being "belligerent?" I support our civil servants who have sworn a constitutional oath to serve and protect, I DO NOT support PIGS that abuse authority because of low i.q.s, lack of education in the laws and statutes regarding citizens.

Don't defend the actions of a pig that even his own supervisors said he was out of line because he lost his cool because the woman got his goat. He's now a desk jockey because he's a bad cop and hopefully the family files a civil suit and the only job he can get in law enforcement is weekend rent-a-cop at the local mall.

Here's an example of how it's absolutely legal although not "nice" to become belligerent, if not "hateful" and curse word calling to authorities and still not go to jail for breaking any laws. This was in a more civilized state and done to someone that knew their legal rights as a citizen though.
